I was first introduced to the work of the TriPOD Dance Collective through Treena Stubel, an award winning Victoria based choreographer, dancer, vocalist and actor.

Since 2009, the Collective, a group of local musicians and choreographers committed to producing new and collaborative work, has been presenting BOUNCE Dance Cabaret at the Victoria Event Centre.

Join TriPOD for a fundraiser "In Song and Dance", Thursday December 2nd, 8pm at the Metro Studio.

The evening promises that "the mystery of collaboration, improvisation and skilled artistry will meet to wrap its audience in exciting experiences of physical and aural connection".

Featured solo singer/songwriters:

Anne Schaeffer, Galen Hartley, Roger Dean Young,

Paul O'Brien, Fintan O'Brien, Tina Pearson,

Brooke Maxwell and Cathy Lewis

Performing live with contemporary dance artists:

Brandy Baybutt, Jung-ah Chung, Lori Hamar,

Stacey Horton, Treena Stubel and Matilda Cobanli

Over the past year and a half, I have greatly appreciated Tripod's ability to initiate me to what had until then been, personally, the largely impervious world of modern dance. Come and see for yourself the ground breaking work being produced in our own city.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance at Moka House, Cook Street Village (cash only) or at the door.

Carol Sokoloff CD Launch

Carol_sokoloff
My friend Carol Sokoloff is well known as a poet, writer and co-manager of Ekstasis Editions with her partner Richard Olafson. She is also a very talented jazz singer and songwriter, and performs with Trio Espresso on a regular basis in Victoria.

Carol launches her new CD "Let Go" at Hermann's Jazz Club, 753 View Street, Sunday December 12th, 8pm. Tickets are $10.00. Call  (250) 388-9166 for reservations.

Join Carol and musicians Kenny Seidman, piano, James Young, bass, Kelby MacNayr, drums, and Colin Campbell, guitar & trumpet, for an evening of swinging, sultry jazz.

Come out and support independent live performance in Victoria, BC.

As an aside, Carol's children's books would make great Christmas presents too!
